POSITION SUMMARYThe Controls Engineer is a key position in the design and advancement of automation for the integrated poultry industry. This position is responsible for the software architecture, design, development, implementation and maintenance for Zoetis "KL" hatchery automation equipment. The role is responsible for developing controls and software for new commercial products and the support of existing systems.This position is located at the London, Ontario site either in an office environment or a development lab environment. Some travel to customer facilities for commissioning and troubleshooting will be required.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESParticipate in controls and software development activities for hatchery automation equipment, integrating all electrical controls and components such as various electro-mechanical and pneumatic motion systems, optical sensing and analysis signal processing, conveyor control and robotic pick and place with software architecture and design. * Develop software from customer requirements and using departmental software standards to control the various devices that comprise KL hatchery automation solutions, including robotic pick and place devices. Documentation, appropriate annotation, version control and archiving of software are part this of activity, as well. * Assist in data architecture design and debugging process through understanding of machine control, data management, computer networking, and embedded PC hardware. * Program PLCs, HMIs, Fanuc robot controllers. * Develop software needed for proof-of-concept of electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, communications and controls hardware for use in development of new automated systems. * Responsible for releasing schematics and BOMs to production. Maintain schematics and electrical BOM"s for all equipment. Input B.O.M."s into PDM and ERP systems. * Troubleshoot hardware-software integrations and HMI interfaces during construction and in the field, as required. * Train field personnel in operation and maintenance of the control aspects of automated equipment developed by the automation engineering group. * Evaluate and recommend control devices such as but not limited to PLC"s, operator interfaces, sensors, electrically controlled pneumatics, wireless communications, etc. * Available for light travel to assist in onsite commissioning. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer sciences, Computer Engineering, or candidates with Mechanical Engineering degree and a concentration in software development will also be considered.
* Minimum of 3 years post-bachelor"s experience in related industries with balanced experience in software development and controls application is preferred. * Technical college graduates with certificates in PLC or robotic programming with a minimum of 5 years applicable work experience may be considered. * PLC programming, with emphasis on Allen-Bradley (RSlogix) and Beckoff. Familiarity with the IEC 61131 controls programming standard is beneficial. * Experience with Solidworks Electric or similar 3d modeling software for electrical design is essential for creating electrical schematics. * Robot programming proficiency is required, especially with Fanuc robots. * Demonstrated experienced developing user interface software, such as Allen-Bradley Panel View. * Experience developing and maintaining software for remote access to equipment via the Internet. * Demonstrated experience in critical thinking and problem solving skills, planning and organizing, decision-making. * Excellent communication skills, influencing and leading, facilitation and team work capabilities. * Knowledge of UL/CSA and IEC electrical and Industrial (Mechanical) Standard. * Experience with enterprise resource planning software (ERP), such as JD Edwards, SAP and etc is a plus.______________________________________________________________Zoetis, London welcomes and encourages people with disabilities.
